Spirulina is a blue-green algae that originated in inland lakes in Africa and South America where it has been consumed as a staple food for centuries. It is now cultivated all over the world in tropical and subtropical climates.

The quality and nutrient content of Spirulina varies considerably from supplier to supplier. this is mostly due to the local climate where it was grown but it could also be the particular specie of Spirulina.

Spirulina contains the highest known concentration of nutrients of all the natural food substances. It is particularly high in Protein, Beta Carotene, Vitamin B12, Phytonutrients and GLA, a rare fatty acid.
