Reflexology Reflexology is the massaging and manipulation of the feet to restore the balance and harmony of the body. Reflexology is often seen as a simple foot massage and many tend to overlook the long history of Reflexology. Reflexology has been practiced for at least 5,000 years in China and India. There are even indications found in tombs in Egypt that indicate that the Egyptians also practices a form of reflexology some four thousand years ago. Reflexology practitioners believe that every part of a persons body is mapped out on the feet. By massaging the correct zone in the feet Reflexology practitioners believe that they are removing blockages that prevent the normal and correct flow of harmonious energy through the body to that body part, organ or muscle. These Reflexology massages stimulates the blood circulation, increasing a balanced harmonious flow of energy as well as stimulating the lymphatic and other detoxifying systems to help rid the body of toxins and other waste material, further freeing up the normal and harmonious functioning of the body. Reflexology has been adopted as an alternate holistic healing discipline by the West as early as 1900, initially as a therapy to block and eliminate pain but eventually as a fully holistic philosophy. Today there are many different reflexology disciplines. Reflexology is practiced extensively in China, Japan and Korea and a variation of Reflexology is also widely used in Ayurveda practices in India.
