Remedy Name/s: Common Name/s: Latin, Zoological, Botanical and mineralogical name/s:
Podophyllum American Mandrake, Duck's foot Podophyllum peltatum

General description and domicile:
Native to the USA and Canada this small shrub grows in  colder climates in moist ground.
It sends up a sparse number of stems hardly ever taller than eighteen inches crowned by two leaves shaped like a duck's foot (hence the common name). The roots contain several tubers or rhizomes.
It gets one, rarely two, foul smelling flowers that are white and about two inches long, low down on the plant. The flowers give way to golf ball sized oblong fruit that are edible.
The leaves and root contain a virulent poison.

Warning: Extreme care must be taken when handling this plant as very little contact with the leaves, stems and roots can be fatal.

Part used and extraction:
The freshy dug up rhizome is used.

Remedy preparation:

The herb was used by Native Americans as a Vermifuge.
