Pills are an old fashioned way of making small, measured, pellets of either the
crude, dried, powdered herb or a solid extract.
Pills are made by mixing the
powdered herb with a polymer-like substance called an excipient which is
inactive serving only to bind the pellet. This is then carefully weighed to
conform to dosage guidelines before being melded into a spherical pellet. This
is often sugarcoated to make taking it more palatable.
Although pills are still made commercially today they are mostly made from
powdered solid extract.
